Is there a diet for tennis?

Well, peak performance in tennis is much more closely linked to nutrition than you realise.

To date, tennis nutrition has tended only to be used as a fuel to energise players but it must form part of all players’ arsenal along with physiotherapists, coaches and doctors etc.

The concept that eating a balanced and varied tennis diet, in the right quantities, will give you all the nutrients you need from your food, is archaic, incorrect and.......detrimental to performance.

That’s because even if you’re eating all the right foods, there’s no guarantee your body is digesting and absorbing the nutrients effectively.

Why?

Heavy exercise, pollution, processed foods, stimulants and stress compromise gut function, and affect performance.

I will look at four areas over the next week or so - energy, strength, metal focus and injuries and how these relate to peak performance:
